Provincetown Residential Exemption
As part of the Fiscal Year 2023 Tax Rate setting process, the Provincetown Select Board adopted a Residential Exemption as they have done for the last several years. This exemption will adjust the taxes of qualified, domiciled residents of Provincetown.
The mission of the Assessor's Office is to serve the taxpayers of Provincetown with professionalism, courtesy and accuracy. While the Department has a myriad of responsibilities, the most important is the valuation of all real and personal property in Provincetown. In accordance with State Law, values are updated annually to reflect full and fair value and are certified every five years by the Massachusetts Department of Revenue. In addition to valuation, the Assessor's office is also responsible for processing personal exemptions, Scale calculations, property transfers, permit and cyclical property reviews, mailing address changes, preparation of abutter's lists, motor vehicle and boat excise abatement processing among other responsibilities.
FY 2023 Tax Billing and the Residential Exemption
Residents who have previously qualified for a Residential Exemption will see the exemption applied to the 1st half (fall 2022) tax bill. The first half tax bill, due November 1, 2022 is an actual tax bill, and will have a new tax rate and a new Assessed Value. Adoption of a Residential Exemption must be voted on annually by the Select Board. The Select Board voted to adopt a Residential Exemption on August 22, 2022. Recipients of the Exemption in FY 2022 will automatically qualify for FY 2023 provided that your qualifying information is the same. If you are a domiciled resident but are not currently receiving the Residential Exemption, you may file an application after you receive your fall tax bill. The application deadline is April 1, 2023. Please provide all the information requested to ensure application approval.
FY2023 Values Announced
The Town of Provincetown Board of Assessors has completed the Assessed Value Certification of all Real Estate and Personal Property for Fiscal Year 2023. On August 2, 2022, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue- Bureau of Local Assessments approved the FY23 Real and Personal Property values in the Town of Provincetown.
On August 25, 2022, the Massachusetts Department of Revenue- Bureau of Accounts approved the FY23 Residential Tax Rate of $5.98 per thousand dollars of assessed value and the FY23 Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property rates of $5.70 per thousand dollars of assessed value. This represents a decrease of .68 per thousand for the Residential tax rate and a decrease of .67 per thousand for the Commercial, Industrial and Personal Property tax rates.
